HUNTINGDON, Pa. – With quarterfinal winners rising up, matchups for the 2012 Landmark Conference Women's Volleyball Championships have been set. No. 23 Juniata will face fourth-seeded Susquehanna at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 in the first semifinal match at the Kennedy Sports+Recreation Center.
"Susquehanna has played us tough the last couple years," said Juniata Head Coach Heather Pavlik. "The big thing for us is to pass and serve and we've got to get ball control a little bit and make sure we put good swings on."
The programs have met in the championship match the past four years. This will be their first meeting in the semis. Juniata has only ever given up one set during the Landmark tournament and that was to Susquehanna in their 3-1 title win last year.
Despite being undefeated (10-0) in the Landmark tournament, Pavlik said the Eagles are not looking past Susquehanna to the championship match.
"I think it is important to not look ahead," she said. "You are preparing but we have to focus on the first match."
Juniata pulled out the five set win (18-25, 25-15, 15-25, 25-17, 15-7) after being down 2-1 to Susquehanna when the teams met on Sept. 29 this season at the first Landmark Conference Weekend. Senior captain Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) led the rally. She finished with one of her 12 double-doubles this season, posting a match-high 14 kills and 10 digs.
No. 3 seed Moravian defeated Goucher (3-0) to advance to the second semifinal match against No. 2 seed Catholic. They will compete at 1:30 p.m for a place in the championship at 7 p.m.
All three matches will be broadcast on juniatasports.net with live stats. Visit landmarkconference.org for more information on the tournament.
