HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Freshman Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) earned her first collegiate weekly honor after helping the Juniata women’s swimming team to its first win of the season. She was named the Landmark Conference women’s swimming and diving player of the week, the league announced Monday.
Nye won three individual races and had a hand in three relay wins as the Eagles went 1-1 in their first weekend of competition.
After leading off Juniata’s winning 200 medley relay team, Nye went on to win the 50 free and anchor the first place 200 free relay in the Eagles 113-87 win over NCAA Division II Mansfield University.
Nye won her second 50 free race in two days against Landmark rival Marywood University. She also won the 100 backstroke and swam anchor on another first place 200 free relay team.
The Eagles lost to Marywood 107-97, but hope to rebound when they travel to Millersville University on Saturday, Oct. 27. They have had trouble getting by Millersville in the past, but the young squad will be looking to change that. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
