HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Junior Kate McDonald (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) and senior Jordan Speck (Huntingdon, Pa./South Huntingdon) were each named to Landmark All-Conference teams, the organization announced earlier this week.
"All conference recognition is great for our program and for the college itself," said head women's basketball coach Danny Young-Uhrich. "In my opinion having multiple kids named all-conference directly reflects the amount of respect our team has earned within conference play."
McDonald is now a three-time all-conference post player. She was named first-team in 2012 and second-team in 2011. Her play on the court this season saw her ranked nationally in nine different categories including 25th in double-doubles and 37th in rebounds per game. She currently leads the team in points, rebounds, free throws, assists, steals and blocked shots.
"Day in and day out Kate brings everything she has," said Young-Uhrich. "She's tough, goes hard and leaves everything on the floor. She's not only deserving because she brings 100 percent effort daily, she leads our team in pretty much every statistical category. More importantly, from a coach's perspective, Kate consistently does the little things we as coaches ask of our players. It's great to see players that take pride in the smaller components of the game get rewarded."
This is the second second-team nod for Speck who is the Eagles all-time 3-point shots leader. The 5-11 guard is ranked nationally in 3-point field goals per game and 3-point field goal percentage. She is also second on the team in points and scoring average and leads the league in 3-point field goals.
"Even though we couldn't win the conference championship, it's good she can hang her hat on this individual accolade her senior year," Young-Uhrich said of Speck. "She is, and has been, one of the best three point shooters in our conference. Her shooting ability alone sets her apart from the rest of the conference. That in itself makes her very deserving of this award."
