HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Coming off its most successful season since 2003, the Juniata College football team will have a chance to show the programs continued improvement as it faces the same opponents from 2012 in the same order this coming fall, the organization released Wednesday.
Head coach Tim Launtz is successfully turning around a program that has struggled as of late. His four career wins in the past two years ties the Eagles win total from 2007-10 combined. The student-athletes have bought into his program and it showed as Juniata went 3-7 overall last year, collecting two Centennial conference wins in the process.
The Eagles will look to key returners on both sides of the ball to keep the momentum going.
Junior Brandon Felus (Columbia, Pa./Columbia) became the first Eagle under Launtz to earn first-team all-conference honors and second in program history. The 6-3, 240 defensive lineman led the league and team at the end of the regular season with 16.5 tackles for a loss of over 100 yards. He was also named an Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star, the first Eagle in over a decade to receive the honor.
Offensively, sophomore quarterback Ward Udinski (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) led the team in passing and rushing yards in 2012. His 243.1 passing yards per game was third best in the league. Udinski ran for over 450 years during the season while facilitating the Eagles offense.
Juniata opens its season at home against Thiel College on September 7. The Eagles defeated Thiel on the road last year 16-13 to start the turnaround season. They then head to Dickinson (Sept. 14) before returning home to play Gettysburg on September 21. The other home opponents include Johns Hopkins (Oct. 5), Muhlenberg (Oct. 26), and Susquehanna (Nov. 16) for the final game of the regular season.
