Juniata women’s basketball heads into this weekend’s games against Catholic and Goucher needing one win to claim the top seed for the Landmark Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament in two weeks’ time... Juniata earned a 63-60 win over Moravian, its first win at Moravian since the 2000-01 season, and a 66-45 victory against Scranton this weekend to improve to 11-0 in league play... senior Ashton Bankos (York, Pa./York Catholic) became the 12th player in Juniata women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points with her 3-point bucket against Scranton at the 5:24 mark of the first half, giving the Eagles a 27-14 lead... with 1,012 career points, Bankos currently ranks 11th among Juniata’s all-time scoring leaders; she is also fourth among career assist leaders with 313... Bankos is also the first player in program history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 300 assists in a career... the win over Scranton allowed Juniata to reach the 20-win mark for the second consecutive season, and only the third time in program history.

MEN’S BASKETBALL (15-7 overall, 7-4 Landmark)
Juniata men’s basketball remained in the hunt for a Landmark Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament berth with a split of its games at Scranton and Moravian last weekend... the Eagles dropped a 59-53 decision at Scranton on Friday night, but rebounded to post a 65-50 win over Moravian on Saturday, and are tied with Moravian for second in the Landmark standings with a 7-4 mark... senior guard Dan Sekulski (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone Area) propelled Juniata offensively last week, averaging 14.0 points and 3.5 rebounds... Alex Raymond (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area) extended his streak of consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer to 17 games; he recorded four over the weekend, giving him 102 3-pointers for his career... Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W.Va./John Marshall) recorded nine steals over the two games against Scranton and Moravian, giving him 47 for the season and 117 for his career; he jumped from ninth to seventh among Juniata career steals leaders.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) was the top all-around performer for the Juniata women at the Susquehanna University Crusader Invitational, winning both the 60m hurdles (9.62 seconds) and the high jump (5-3 ¾). Shaffer’s 60m hurdle time was a season-best mark and the second-best time in the Landmark this season, while her high jump mark was a personal record and just an inch-and-a-half shy of the Juniata record... Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) cleared a season-best height of 4-11 ¾ to take third in the high jump, and PR’d in the 60m hurdles with a fourth-place time of 10.52 seconds... Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) won the mile run at the Crusader Invitational with a time of 5:24.27, and continues to hold the top time in the mile for the Landmark Conference... Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) shaved eight seconds off her personal best time in the mile with a time of 5:31.62 on her way to a third place finish

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) and Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) both took first place awards at the Susquehanna University Crusader Invitational; Bauer captured the long jump with a mark of 21-6 ¾, while McCoy won the 60m dash with a season-best time of 7.24 seconds... Ryan Trexler (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) finished second in the mile (4:35.17) and third in the 800m (2:04.12)... Dan Hoover (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central) and Tyler Mandley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) took second and third respectively in the 60m hurdles with times of 9.15 and 9.19 seconds.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
After a weekend away from competition, Juniata women's swimming will close out the 2011-12 season this weekend at the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.... Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) enters the championship ranked among the top three swimmers in the Landmark in three different events (100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM)... the Eagles also hold the Landmark's top time in the 200 free relay.

Juniata men’s volleyball posted its first win of the season over a Division I opponent with a 3-2 (24-26, 20-25, 25-15, 25-19, 15-13) win over George Mason, Saturday night in Huntingdon... the Patriots had been receiving votes in the AVCA Division I-II poll coming into the match... senior middle Ben Wolff (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) paced Juniata offensively with 20 kills on 30 attacks for a .633 hitting percentage, and added seven total blocks to finish with 24.0 points – the best night for a Juniata player since Jeremy Barndt ’07 logged 24 kills on 28 swings and a .821 hitting percentage on March 1, 2007, versus East Stroudsburg... the win was Juniata’s first over George Mason since the 2010 season... Friday night, the Eagles dropped a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-23) decision at Saint Francis (Pa.); Juniata has lost its last seven matches in Loretto, last winning at DeGol Arena in 2005... Wolff is pacing Juniata offensively with 2.52 kills/set and a .552 hitting percentage, and logging 41 total blocks (0.93 blocks/set) at the net... outside hitter Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) is averaging 2.10 kills/set behind a .237 attack clip.
