Knox Stadium Synthetic Turf project

Juniata College will be installing synthetic turf this summer at Knox Stadium, providing a significant upgrade to the home of Juniata football and men’s and women’s track and field, and the new home for Juniata’s nationally-ranked field hockey program.

The renovated complex will be called Goodman Field at Knox Stadium, named after longtime Juniata benefactor and former trustee David K. Goodman ’74.

Planning for the project was completed by the landscape architecture and engineering firm of Derck & Edson Associates from Lititz, Pa.  Derck & Edson has been involved with the planning and design of synthetic turf and athletics facility projects at Washington College (Md.), Dickinson College, Elizabethtown College, Susquehanna University, and Lebanon Valley College.

Lead contractor for the project is Sports Construction Group from Brecksville, Ohio. Recent SCG projects include the Cleveland Browns’ indoor practice facility, the Penn State University field hockey complex, and Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Field.

The product selected to be installed at Knox Stadium is Shaw Sportexe Powerblade SZ 2.25 with a sand and rubber infill system. This dual-fiber system is suitable for use with football, field hockey, and soccer.
