HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Landmark Conference women's cross country preseason poll turned out to be a bit of a log-jam when it came to the voting, as just 14 points separates the top slot and No. 5.
The Juniata women's cross country team checked-in at No. 2 with two first-place votes and 47 points, the same amount of first-place votes as No. 1 Moravian received but two points shy in the overall voting.
The third rank went to both Goucher and Susquehanna, who each tallied 39 points. Goucher picked up two first-place votes, and Susquehanna as well as No. 5 Scranton (35 points) each received one.
The bottom three Landmark teams in order; Catholic (25 points), Merchant Marine (13 points) and Drew (9 points), were the only squads to not receive a first-place nod.
The Eagles return their two top runners in junior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) and senior Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township). The team is looking forward to bouncing-back from their disappointing sixth place finish in 2011.
Juniata opens its 2012 season on Friday, August 31, when it competes at the Bucknell Opener in Lewisburg, Pa.
