Eagles Sweep Greyhounds on Senior Night
HUNTINGDON, PA- The Juniata women's volleyball team picked up another conference win in a 3-0 sweep of Moravian University on a memorable Friday night, honoring the four seniors in the program.
The Eagles dominated the match early, winning eight of the opening ten points, with kills coming from all over the floor. The six-point advantage only grew from there in a set which the Eagles never trailed. A 9-1 run from 12-7 to 21-8 largely defined the set, and the Eagles wound up on top, 25-10. Elizabeth Cleveland made a kill on the final point, assisted by Isabella Rushing.
Set two started to turn the match around for the Greyhounds, as they took their first lead, opening a 4-6 edge on the scoreboard. The Eagles quickly responded with a 3-0 burst to go up 7-6, and the teams were later tied again at 9-9. From there, the Eagles went on separate 5-0 and 4-0 runs, conceding only two points between them. Up 18-11, it was the Eagles set to lose. The lead shrunk to five before Juniata pushed it back up to seven at 25-18, the final point a Greyhounds service error.
Set three began similarly to set two, as Moravian started strong. Their 4-6 edge came after two quick points followed 4-0 runs for both teams early. With ties at 6-6, 7-7, and 10-10, the middle of the set was tight until a 8-1 run put the Eagles up by the same scoreline in set two, 18-11. A 4-0 run later on put the Eagles up nine at 22-13, and they were able to see out set point in style, as Audrey Muth clinched the final kill on an assist from Mari Hansen. The Eagles took set three, 25-16.
Maggie Hayes led in kills for the Eagles with 10 while Ava Gummer followed with nine. Cleveland added 23 assists, and Sophia Repholz made 14 digs in the backcourt.
The win marks the Eagles 11th straight, and eighth consecutive 3-0 sweep. It also marks a 22-2 record, and 9-0 tally in the Landmark Conference with one conference match remaining. That match is their next, as the team will host Wilkes on Saturday in a doubleheader at noon and at 2:00 p.m. against Lebanon Valley.
