Women’s Volleyball Hosts Wid Guisler Invitational
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – This Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26, the No. 11 Juniata College women’s volleyball team will host the annual Wid Guisler Invitational. The Eagles have invited the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon University, the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University, and the Bulldogs of DeSales University to compete in six matches over the two-day tournament.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – This Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26, the No. 11 Juniata College women's volleyball team will host the annual Wid Guisler Invitational. The Eagles have invited the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon University, the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University, and the Bulldogs of DeSales University to compete in six matches over the two-day tournament.
Juniata
Last weekend, the Eagles finished a clean sweep of Landmark Conference play earning the No. 1 seed in the league's post-season tournament. Juniata (23-3) is undefeated at home and has not suffered a loss to any of the three opponents appearing this weekend; ahead of Carnegie Mellon 11-0, Johns Hopkins 2-0, and DeSales 3-0, all time. Junior Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) is leading the way for the Eagles in kills (219), kills per set (3.17) and both total points (258) and points per set (3.7). Senior Amy Miller (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) is second on the team in all four of those categories as well as total service aces (27). As a team, the Eagles have amassed 205 total aces with freshman Brittanie Tannenbaum (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) leading the team with 28. Classmate Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) ranks first in the conference and is nationally ranked in assists per set. Junior libero Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Miller are leading the defensive charge for Juniata with 350 and 221 digs, respectively.
Johns Hopkins
The Blue Jays stand at .500 in overall (9-9) and are getting the better of their opponents in Centennial Conference play (5-3), but are struggling on the road (1-5). Two Johns Hopkins players have reached triple digits in kills this year; junior Meagan Donohoe (193) and sophomore Caitlin Callihan (144). The duo top the team in kills, kills per set, and total attempts. The strongest serving threats come from juniors Anne Cohen, Kim Bronson, and Mariel Metalios with 23, 22, and 19 aces, respectively. Bronson also leads the team in total blocks (37), while Cohen (233), Metalios (130), and sophomore Stephanie Yokoyama (125) have the top-three totals in digs.
DeSales
The 14-11 Bulldogs are 3-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play and stand at third in league with three conference matches remaining. Freshman Lauren Hess is making a strong impact in her first collegiate season. She is currently leading the Bulldogs by a wide margin in four offensive categories. Classmate Lisa Wallitsch and fifth year setter Justine McNulty both have over 20 aces on the year and junior libero Amanda Wallitsch leads the team with 416 digs.
Carnegie Mellon
Carnegie Mellon volleyball stands at 19-7 on the year and 4-2 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The Tartans are coming off a 3-1 weekend of UAA action in which they scored an upset win over then No. 19 University of Chicago. Junior Ali Celentano is leading Carnegie Mellon in total kills, kills per set, total attempts, service aces, and aces per set. Senior Senna Parsa recently passed the 1,000 career-kills mark and is second on the team in kills, kills per set, total attempts, and aces per set.
