Women’s volleyball starts preseason ranked No. 10 in AVCA preseason poll

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College women’s volleyball will begin its 2012 season ranked 10th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll, unveiled Wednesday.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College women's volleyball will begin its 2012 season ranked 10th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll, unveiled Wednesday.

The Eagles, coming of their 31st consecutive conference championship and a final 27-8 overall record were awarded 433 points and did not receive any first-place votes.

A ranking of 10th is the lowest initial ranking for Juniata women's volleyball since the 1999 season, when the Eagles began their season ranked 15th in the AVCA's first poll of the season. 

The 2011 Division III runner-up, Christopher Newport, took first with 676 points and 14 first-place votes, while Washington-St. Louis earned second accumulating 653 point and seven first-place votes. Defending national champion Wittenberg appeared fifth on the list with 572 points and just three first-place votes. Eastern, who narrowly beat-out the Eagles in the NCAA Regional Finals last season earned 443 points for ninth on the preseason rankings.

Juniata begins the 2012 campaign at the Haverford Invitational for a four-match tournament beginning against Widener on Saturday, September 1.
