Yessenaliyeva and Navarro de Torres Named to Landmark All Conference
Towson, MD - The Juniata women's tennis team had two athletes named to the Landmark All-Conference teams. Medina Yessenaliyeva was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team, while Celia Navarro de Torres was named as an Honorable Mention.
Sophomore Medina Yessenaliyeva emerged as the top singles player for her team in the 2024 season, compiling an impressive 12-1 record. Her dominance extended into doubles play as well, where she added eight victories against just five losses, anchoring the lineup with consistent high-level performance. Yessenaliyeva won 24 sets while dropping just four, and outscored opponents 165 games to 68. From her first appearance in February through the final match of the season, she remained nearly unbeatable in singles. In doubles, Medina was an equally critical contributor. She finished with a solid 8-5 record, tallying eight sets won and 67 games won, often securing early points that gave her team crucial momentum. She closed the season on a hot streak, winning five of her final six doubles matches.
Sophomore Celia Navarro de Torres brought balance and resilience to the lineup in the 2024 season. Competing in both singles and doubles play, she finished with seven singles wins and eight doubles victories, showcasing her value as a two-way contributor in every match she played. Navarro de Torres's singles campaign was marked by consistent competitiveness. She captured 14 sets and won 121 games, often overpowering her opponents with clean groundstrokes and smart court coverage. In doubles, Celia was particularly reliable, closing the season with an 8-5 record, including a stretch of five consecutive wins to finish the year. She won eight sets and 61 games in doubles competition and displayed strong chemistry with her partners in critical matches. Her performance against Drew, Lycoming, and Wilkes was especially crucial in helping secure team victories.
