Women’s tennis upended by Catholic in season finale

Juniata College women’s tennis wrapped up its 2011-12 slate with a 9-0 loss to the Catholic University of America, Friday afternoon on the CUA Tennis Courts.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Juniata College women's tennis wrapped up its 2011-12 slate with a 9-0 loss to the Catholic University of America, Friday afternoon on the CUA Tennis Courts.

The only thing remaining on the Eagles' (6-10, 0-5 Landmark) schedule is to complete of the third set of no. 5 singles in Juniata's match against Moravian College, which was suspended due to darkness back on April 9 tied at 4-4. That final set of no. 5 singles is scheduled to be completed on Sunday.

Against Catholic, Juniata's best chance to take a point out of tables came at no. 2 flight, where Stacie Beegle (Schellsburg, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) and Hilary Walsh (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area) fought Catholic's Ritmarie Holden and Caitlin Porter to an 8-4 loss.

The Cardinals took five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Lisa Hauptman (Lorsch, Germany/Alfred-Delp-Schule) took CUA's Margie Selinger to a supertiebreaker at no. 1 singles, eventually dropping a 5-7, 6-2, 10-5 decision.
