Women's Swimming Wins Twice in the Steel City
PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The Juniata College women's swim team traveled to Pittsburgh, PA, where they won over Chatham University (152-122) and Franciscan University of Steub (160-95) Friday evening.
The meet kicked off with the 200-yard Medley Relay, where the A team of Delany Wetzel, Norah McClain, Danielle Cline, and Juliana Varner touched first with a winning time of 2:03.66. The B team of Abby Ortiz, Manali Misra, Miriam Struble-Hedstrom, and Kimber Beeler claimed fourth place at 2:16.49.
In the 1000-yard Freestyle, Maegan Jordan was second in 12:02.77. Beeler also contributed with a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 13:30.62.
The Eagles made a strong showing in the 200-yard Freestyle, where Ortiz took second with a time of 2:13.57, while Misra secured sixth in 2:35.07.
Wetzel clinched first place in 1:07.80 in the 100-yard Backstroke, while Neupane added a sixth-place finish in 1:30.80.
The 100-yard Breaststroke was a successful event for Juniata, with McClain taking first in 1:18.23, followed closely by Varner in third at 1:20.44 and Jordan in fourth at 1:21.01.
In the 200-yard Butterfly, Struble-Hedstrom took second place with a time of 3:27.39. Cline took first place in the 50-yard Freestyle in 26.99, with Grace Finch taking third in 28.34, and Neupane finishing eighth at 35.82.
The Eagles returned to the podium in the 100-yard Freestyle, as Cline claimed second in 59.94, and Varner secured third with a 1:02.40 finish. Finch placed ninth in 1:38.88.
Wetzel was excellent in the 200-yard Backstroke, taking another first-place finish with a time of 2:25.60, and Neupane added sixth place with a 3:17.59. In the 200-yard Breaststroke, McClain touched first in 2:46.12, followed by Ortiz in second at 2:52.59, and Misra in seventh with a time of 3:12.91.
The 500-yard Freestyle featured strong swims by Jordan, who claimed third in 5:59.46, and, who placed fifth with a 6:37.65 finish. In the 100-yard Butterfly, Cline continued her strong meet with a second-place finish at 1:08.64, while Finch took fourth in 1:16.68.
Ortiz delivered in the 400-yard Individual Medley, winning the event in 5:16.98. Misra placed sixth with a time of 6:13.31, followed by Struble-Hedstrom in seventh at 6:31.81.
The meet concluded with the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Juniata's A team of Varner, Wetzel, McClain, and Finch triumphed with a time of 1:50.65, while the B team of Jordan, Beeler, Struble-Hedstrom, and Neupane finished third in 2:09.63.
Juniata returns to the pool deck tomorrow as they host Elizabethtown and Penn State Altoona. The Eagles will honor seniors Amanda Puza and Maegan Jordan, prior to the start of the meet.
