Swimming Competes in First Meet of the Season

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.- Men and Women's swimming competed in their first meet of the season at the Wilkes University Sprint Invite on Saturday.

The women's team placed 5^th with a total of 200 points and the men's team placed 4^th with a total of 24 points.

In the first event of the meet, both men and women competed in a mixed 200-yard medley relay. The relay consisted of Carolann Edwards, Alex Fontes, Jackson Hoch, and Meghan Brubaker finishing with a time of 2:09.83.

On the women's side, Krista Peachey finished 8^th in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 33.60 with Edwards just behind in 10^th place with a time of 34.85. In the 50-yard breastroke, Brubaker finished 12^th with a time of 38:53. Fontes placed 4^th with a time of 1:03 in the 100-yard butterfly, and Emily Angeline finished 9^th with a time of 1:05.43 in the 100-yard freestyle. In the 100 IM, Brubaker finished 10^th with a time of 1:14.75 while Edwards and Angeline placed 14^th and 15^th respectively.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Edwards, Fontes, Peachy, and Brubaker came in 3^rd with a time of 4:58.72. In the 50-yard butterfly, Fontes came in with a time of 30.30 to take 4^th place and Peachy came in at 31:86 to take 10^th place. In the 100-yard backstroke, Edwards finished in 8^th with a time of 1:18.93. The quartet of Angeline, Brubaker, Fontes, and Edwards put up a strong performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay coming in 3^rd with a time of 2:01.40. In the 100-yard breastroke, Fontes finished 5^th with a time of 1:18.69. In the 50-yard freestyle, Peachy came in 10^th (29.12), Brubaker finished 15^th (29:84), Angeline finished 16^th (29:88), Kylee Lucero came in 23^rd (45:65), and Danielle Ochs came in 24^th (48.27)

The final event of the meet was the mixed 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Angeline, Peachy, Hoch, and Fontes came in 6^th with a time of 4:06.04.

On the men's side, Hoch placed 11^th with a time of 1:11.12 in the 100-yard butterfly. Hoch came in 17^th in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 31:85. In the 50-yard freestyle, Hoch finished in 19^th with a time of 27:23.

Both teams return to action October 27^th at the Susquehanna University Relays at 6:00pm.
