HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team suffered a hard-fought 1-0 loss to visiting Susquehanna University, Tuesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.
Emma Stiller made two saves in goal for the Eagles.
The Eagle defense was tested early: Stiller saved one shot, another was blocked, and two more went wide of the goal in the first 17 minutes.
In the 29th minute, a River Hawk ball into the box bounced off an Eagle defender's head and into their net.
In the 40th minute, Savanna Murray got the ball at the top of the box, took a touch, and tried to beat the keeper to the right side. The SU goalie made a diving one-handed save to punch the ball wide.
Hailey DiPiano and Olivia Rodriguez drew saves from the River Hawk goalie in the final four minutes, but their goalie was up to the challenge for both efforts.
Juniata trailed 1-0 at the half, as the visitors had a 6-4 advantage in shots.
The Eagles pushed for an equalizer in the second half with their best effort in the final seconds. Dries blasted in a free kick as the clock ticked down, and the SU keeper had to push it just wide of the goal.
Juniata outshot SU, 11-10, and each team took three corners.
The Eagles will return to action Saturday against the University of Scranton—Kickoff at 1:00.
