Eagles Soar Past Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team defeated Penn College, 3-1, Wednesday evening.
The teams combined for eight shots over the first eighteen minutes of action, with Juniata holding a 5-3 edge in shots. Kristin Racis (Womelsdorf, Pa. / Conrad Weiser) made two stops in a span of two minutes to keep the score at 0-0.
In the 19thminute, Caroline Braas (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Township) ripped a shot that bounced off the right post across the goal mouth and in to give JC a 1-0 lead. A minute and a half later, Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa. / Line Mountain) took the ball from a Wildcat defender and fired the ball into the net to double the Eagle lead.
Juniata went into the locker room ahead 2-0 and held a firm grip on the game. They held a 14-3 edge in shots at halftime.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick High School) tapped in the third Eagle goal after a corner to make it 3-0.
In the 86thminute Penn College got one back, but Juniata cruised to a 3-1 victory.
The Eagles finished the game with 21-8 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corners.
Juniata will play at Scranton, Saturday at 4:00.
