BE-DEVILED: JUNIATA WOMEN’S SOCCER LOSES TO DICKINSON, 5-0

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Dickinson College scored three goals in a 12-minute span over two halves on its way to a 5-0 shutout of Juniata College, in women's soccer action Thursday afternoon at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon, Pa.

The Eagles (6-3-2, 0-1-1 Landmark) were outshot 19-1 during the game, in which Juniata allowed more goals than it had in its previous 10 games combined.

"Dickinson's a strong team, and we played like we weren't inspired," said Juniata head coach Scott McKenzie. "We didn't play with the intensity you need to have when you play a good opponent."

Dickinson's Sarah Casey recorded a hat trick to lead the Red Devils' scoring effort.

Casey put the Red Devils on the board in the third minute with a shot into the left side of the goal, past diving Juniata keeper Lisa Russo (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland).

The score remained 1-0 throughout most of the first half, under Dickinson scored in the 41st minute to expand their lead to 2-0. Rachel Henry had the second Red Devil goal, with an assist going to Molly Schaefer.

The second half began much like the first, with Dickinson striking early and Casey doing the damage. Casey notched her second marker of the game in the 49th minute, and then added another in the 53rd minute. Christie Wetzel and Lisa Nichols assisted on Casey's second goal, with Courtney Anderson assisting on her third.

Schaefer closed out the scored for Dickinson with an insurance goal in the 88th minute off an assist from Wetzel.

Russo allowed four goals and was credited with one save in 66 minutes in the Juniata goal. Lauren Auster-Gussman (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) finished out the final 24 minutes in the Eagle goal, making three stops while allowing one goal. Dickinson keeper Kailyn Hartman was not challenged by a Juniata scoring opportunity, and did not record a save during the afternoon.

"Every good team has bad games, and this was one of those. We're a good team, and we had a bad game. The measure of a good team is how they respond to a bad performance, and I expect us to measure up," said McKenzie.

The Eagles return to action this Saturday when they host Drew University in a Landmark Conference doubleheader on Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon. The women's game versus Drew will begin at 1:00 p.m., with the men's game starting at approximately 3:30 p.m.
