Yeager, Stevens Lead Eagles Past Warriors
HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team locked in their spot in the Landmark Postseason with an 18-6 win over visiting Lycoming College, Wednesday evening.
Kyndall Yeager (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) led the attack with six goals, an assist, and 10 draw controls. Skyler Stevens (Fallston, Md. / Fallston HS) contributed four goals, two assists, and three ground balls, while Peyton Goodrich (Reading, Pa. / Berks Catholic) had two goals, two assists, five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and a draw control. Elayna Stubbe (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin HS) tallied two goals and an assist, while Ella McGlaughlin (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area High School) totaled a goal and two assists. Shannon Para (Alexandria, Va. / West Potomac) added two goals and three caused turnovers while Devyn Mauger (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor HS) chipped in with a goal and two ground balls. Tess Ledeboer (Orefield, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) had seven draw controls, four caused turnovers, and two ground balls, while Maeve Kuser (Upperco, Md. / Hereford) had five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
The defenses controlled the first seven minutes before McGlaughlin found Yeager to open the scoring. The Warriors responded with two goals over the next two minutes before Stevens and Yeager gave Juniata the lead back in the quarter's final minute.
Lycoming scored three of the first four goals of the second, as Stubbe set up Stevens for the lone Eagle goal. Juniata dominated the final seven and a half minutes of the half as Drummond found Para for the first of six goals. Goodrich's goal saw her force a turnover, take the ball the length of the field, weave through the Warrior defense, and fire the ball into the net. Yeager featured heavily in the run as she scored three of the goals. Mauger capped the run, knifing through the defense and firing high past the goalie. Juniata led 10-5 at the break.
JC dominated the second half, outscoring the visitors 8-1, and forced the clock to run for the final 9:40 of the contest. JC outshot Lycoming 45-15 and picked up 18 to 8 draw controls.
