McCann Shoots Perfect from Deep as Juniata Tops Goucher, 70-65
Baltimore, Md. – The Juniata College women's basketball team used a dominant effort on the glass and efficient shooting to earn a 70-65 Landmark Conference win at Goucher on Saturday afternoon inside the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
Juniata shot 47.1% from the floor (24-51) and 37.5% (6-16) from three-point range, holding Goucher to 35.8% overall and 28.6% from beyond the arc. The Eagles controlled the boards in a major way, outrebounding the Gophers 52-29, including a 12-11 edge on the offensive glass that led to a 14-7 advantage in second-chance points.
Bri Bodtorf led the charge with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting while adding 13 rebounds for a double-double. Emily McCann was efficient from deep, knocking down 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to finish with 16 points. Emma Coolidge and Laney Gerdich anchored the interior with eight and nine rebounds, respectively.
After trailing 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, Juniata responded by outscoring Goucher 22-12 in the second to take a five-point lead into halftime. The Eagles extended their advantage to as many as 17 in the second half and carried a 53-42 edge into the fourth quarter.
Goucher made a late push, capitalizing on turnovers and scoring 28 points off 26 Juniata miscues, but the Eagles held firm down the stretch. Juniata's ball movement resulted in 10 assists on 24 made field goals, while limiting the Gophers to just seven assists.
Juniata also finished with a 10-9 edge in fastbreak points and converted 16-of-23 from the free throw line to help secure the five-point road victory.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday as they faceoff with Lycoming.
