Elizabethtown Pulls Away in Second Quarter, Defeats Juniata 63-45
Huntingdon, Pa. – Juniata women's basketball fell to Elizabethtown College, 63-45, Wednesday evening inside Memorial Gymnasium.
The Eagles used a strong second quarter to create separation and maintained control the rest of the way. After Juniata held an early 13-11 edge in the opening period, Elizabethtown responded with a 16-8 second quarter to take a 32-21 lead into halftime.
Emily McCann paced Juniata with 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Leah Skweres added nine points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block, while Olivia Berg chipped in seven points. Laney Gerdich led the Eagles on the boards with 10 rebounds to go along with six points.
Juniata struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 1-of-15 attempts (6.7 percent), and shot 31.1 percent overall from the field. Elizabethtown capitalized on second-chance opportunities and outscored Juniata 18-8 in that category, while also posting a 32-24 edge in points in the paint.
The Eagles' largest lead reached 19 in the fourth quarter, and Juniata was unable to close the gap down the stretch.
Juniata will look to bounce back at Goucher on February 14th.
