Navickas Sparks Juniata to 70–48 Win Over Grove City
Huntingdon, Pa. – The Juniata women's basketball team earned a 70–48 victory over Grove City on Saturday afternoon inside the Kennedy Sports and Recreation Center.
Juniata (2-9, 0-4 Landmark) set the tone early, opening the game on a 23–15 first-quarter run and never looking back. The Eagles held Grove City to just 26.0 percent shooting from the field and limited the Wolverines to 1-for-19 from three-point range on the afternoon.
Offensively, Bri Bodtorf led the way with a game-high 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting while adding 10 rebounds and seven assists for a double-double performance. Laney Gerdich followed with 15 points and nine rebounds, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor, while Gemma Navickas provided a spark off the bench with 12 points in just 13 minutes.
Juniata dominated the glass, out-rebounding Grove City 49–35, including a 10–17 edge on the offensive boards. Emma Coolidge anchored the effort inside with a team-high 13 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end, while Bodtorf and Gerdich combined for 19 rebounds.
Defensively, the Eagles forced 21 Grove City turnovers and turned them into transition opportunities throughout the game. Juniata also shot an efficient 49.0 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Grove City (8-3, 2-0) was led by Alexis Hudson with 13 points and Meredith Sherrerd with 11, but the Wolverines were unable to cut the deficit to single digits after halftime.
Juniata outscored Grove City in all four quarters and capped the afternoon with an 18–14 fourth period to secure the 22-point win.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Wilkes for a Landmark conference matchup at 6:00 Pm.
