Catholic Pulls Away in Second Half as Juniata Falls on the Road
Washington, DC - Juniata battled early but was unable to keep pace with a red-hot Catholic offense on Wednesday night, falling 77–38 on the road. The Eagles stayed within striking distance through the opening 20 minutes, trailing just 34–28 at the half, before Catholic used a dominant 22–6 third quarter to take control.
Juniata opened the game with balanced scoring, getting early baskets from Emma Coolidge, Laney Gerdich, Olivia Berg, Bri Bodtorf, and Emily McCann to stay within two after the first quarter. The Eagles continued to compete on the glass throughout the night, finishing with 39 rebounds to Catholic's 41.
Bri Bodtorf led the Eagles with 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a block in 36 minutes. Laney Gerdich followed with six points and seven boards on 3-of-8 shooting, while Emma Coolidge added two points and three rebounds. Emily McCann chipped in four points and four rebounds, and Olivia Berg tallied five points with a steal.
Off the bench, Makenna Hartman provided strong minutes with eight points and three rebounds. Gemma Navickas added two points and four boards, while Leah Skweres contributed one point and two rebounds. Michaela Owens, Anastasia Ranalli, Emily Ladley, Jenna Norton, Cate Clarke, and Natalie Osborne also saw action for the Eagles.
Catholic shot 45.5 percent from the floor and knocked down eight threes, using its perimeter efficiency to create separation in the second half. Juniata finished 15-of-48 from the field and 7-of-10 at the line while posting an 8–31 advantage in offensive rebounds.
The Eagles return to Landmark play this weekend against Scranton.
