HUNTINGDON, Pa. – After starting the season 2-0 on the road, the Juniata women's basketball team moved into the national rankings. The Eagles are now No. 24 in the USA Today/Coaches Top 25 poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
"National recognition is something to be very positive about," said Head Coach Danny Young-Uhrich. "I think it speaks volumes to our program and the success that we have had. We are 2-0 and that's good, but it's a marathon of a season, not a sprint. We do have a lot of work to do and I think that everybody 1-through-25 is saying the same thing."
The Eagles enter the national rankings for the first time this season. They received votes in two preseason polls: USA Today/Coaches and D3Hoops.com. Juniata was ranked as high as 10th last year and finished the season ranked 20/21.
Juniata opens at home this Saturday, Nov. 24 against Gwynedd-Mercy at 2 p.m. to kick off a double-header with the men. This will be the sixth meeting between the two programs who have been competing since 2002-03. The Griffins lead the all-time series 3-2 but Juniata, who has not lost a game in Memorial Gymnasium during the regular season since December 2010, is 1-1 when facing Gwynedd-Mercy at home. The Eagles won 71-69 when the teams met last year.
