Softball Takes Two From Mount Aloysius

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team picked up two wins over Mount Aloysius, 2-0 and 10-2, on a wet and rainy Thursday afternoon at West End Field.
In game one, the Eagles got going early as Grace Hensch scored on a fielder's choice and Eva Johnson drove in Dani Berlin with a single through the right side.
Maryn Swank and Cheyanne Silvis did the rest, shutting out the Mounties and holding them to four hits. Swank got the start, allowing two hits with a strikeout in her two innings of work. Swank's strikeout was the 100th of her career. Silvis got the win in relief, allowing two hits over five innings with a strikeout.
In game two, the Eagle offense soared in the second inning, as they bopped seven hits to score seven runs. Highlights included Ashley Robuck's two-run single and Claire Thomas's two-run double to left.
Berlin made it 8-0 in the third within an infield single that scored Robuck.
The Mounties scored twice in the fourth to make it 8-2.
Berlin drove in Robuck with an infield single in the fifth, and later Hensch scored from third on an error by the shortstop.
Maddy Detz got the win in game two, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts across four innings. Gracie Ruch entered in relief, and allowed one hit with a strikeout in one inning of work. Hensch went 1-3 with a double, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored while Thomas went 2-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Robuck was 3-3 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored.
The Eagles will take host Moravian in their season finale, Saturday at 1:00.
