Softball Wins Against Colonels, Stymied by Saxons

CLERMONT, Fl. – The Juniata softball team earned a split as they got the win over Curry College 11-0 before falling to Alfred University 10-6, Tuesday morning.
Seven different Eagles drove in a run for the Eagles in the game against Curry, led by Dani Berlin and Grace Hensch's two RBI apiece. Claire Thomas, Lexi Roush, and Amanda Townley each had a double.
The Eagles did most of their damage in the first inning, scoring eight runs on five hits as they never looked back.
Cheyenne Silvis went two innings and struck out five, while Gracie Ruch went three innings to get the win, allowing two hits.
In game two, the Saxons jumped ahead 6-0, midway through the third inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, Ashley Robuck scored on a wild pitch, Roush lined an RBI-single to center, and Hensch drove in Berlin on a sacrifice fly to center.
SU scored in the fifth on an error, and Juniata got back within one in the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles scored three runs on three hits as Eva Johnson, Berlin, and Thomas each drove in a run.
The Saxons tacked on three runs in the top half of the seventh to complete the scoring.
Maddy Detz allowed two hits and a run across two innings, Silvis allowed six runs on eight hits with a strikeout, and Maryn Swank threw three innings and allowed three runs on five hits with a strikeout.
Juniata will take on Hood at 11:15 am and Suffolk at 1:30 to wrap up the Florida portion of their games.
