Men’s Volleyball Places Five on All-CVC Team, DeHaven and Co. Named Coaching Staff of the Year
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata men's volleyball team had five student-athletes named to the Continental Volleyball Conference All-Conference team. Chris Mellor, Tyler Phillips, and Will Sierer were named to the first team, Dante Palombo was named to the second team, while Andrew Byrne was named to the third team.
Mellor makes his first appearance on the all-conference team. He currently leads the conference in hitting percentage, while also ranking sixteenth in blocks per set. Overall, he has 129 kills, a .471 hitting percentage, and 46 total blocks to date on the season.
Phillips makes his second appearance on the all-conference team, having made the second team as a sophomore. He ranks third in the conference in points per set, fifth in total points, sixth in the conference in kills, fourth in kills per set, eighth in aces, and 13th in total blocks. To date, he has 264 kills, a .272 hitting percentage, 334.0 total points, 152 digs, 57 blocks, and 32 aces.
Sierer makes his second appearance on the all-conference team, also having made the third team last season. He was named CVC Athlete of the Week twice and was once named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week. He currently sits third in the country in assists per set (10.19). Overall, he has 871 assists, 34 kills, 143 digs, 32 blocks, and 14 aces.
Palombo makes his first appearance on the all-conference team. He currently ranks second in the CVC in hitting percentage behind Mellor at .398 and is tied for 10th in total blocks at 61. Overall, he has 144 kills, a .398 hitting percentage, and 61 total blocks on the season.
Byrne makes his first appearance on the all-conference team. He sits third in the conference in digs per set at 2.48. Overall, he has 191 digs on the season with 57 assists.
Head Coach Glenn DeHaven, along with assistant coaches Brandin McDonough and Ramius Priuss, were honored as the CVC Coaching Staff of the Year. They have coached the Eagles to a 27-2 record, 6-1 in conference, and 8-2 against nationally ranked teams. The Eagles completed their first undefeated regular season at home inside Memorial Gymnasium. The Eagles spent time ranked #1 in the national poll, and this marks the program's 13th appearance in the CVC tournament, while being the 10th consecutive appearance.
