Eagles Top Colonels
HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #2 Juniata men's volleyball team defeated Wilkes University 3-0 Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Tyler Phillips notched 13 kills (.286), an assist, an ace, six digs and two blocks. Octavian Sperry had eight kills (.300), an ace and four digs. Will Sierer totaled 34 assists, a kill, six digs, and a block.
In the first set, the Eagles and the Colonels were even 12-12 midway through. The Eagles ripped off eight of the next 10 points, led by kills from Felix Baier, Sperry, and Sierer to get to 20-14. The Eagles took set one on a service error, 25-20.
Juniata had to climb out of a late hole in set two, trailing 16-20. Kills from Logan Peterson and Phillips, paired with several Colonel errors, push Juniata ahead. Wilkes took the next two points, before two more errors and a Sperry kill gave Juniata set point. Phillips put down another kill to help the Eagles escape with a set two win, 25-23.
The Eagles had their best offensive set in the third and soared ahead 22-11. The Colonels went on a bit of a run, but the Eagles slammed the door shut and ended the match 25-20.
With the win, the Eagles finish second in the Continental Volleyball Conference regular season standings.
Juniata will travel to take on Buffalo State on Friday at 8:00.
