HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #4 Juniata men's volleyball picked up a Continental Volleyball Conference win over visiting Elizabethtown College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-23), Wednesday evening inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Octavian Sperry led the way with 12 kills (.391), an ace, seven digs and two block assists. Andrew Byrne totaled 11 digs and three assists while Will Sierer had 30 assists, an ace and three digs.
The opening set saw the Eagles hold a narrow lead throughout the early and middle stages of the set at 17-15. The Eagles got going down the stretch, taking eight of the final 10 points, winning on a Blue Jay attack error.
The Eagles had their best offensive set in the second, hitting .476 as they closed set two on a 9-3 sprint 25-15.
The Blue Jays made it interesting in the final set, whittling the Eagle lead down to one late, 23-22. A block by Dante Palombo and Sperry got the Eagles to match point, and a kill from Sperry ended it 25-23.
The Eagles are on the road this weekend as they travel to take on Rutgers-Newark Friday at 6:00.
