Eagles Have Strong Showing At Susquehanna Orange & Maroon Classic
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams opened the New Year at the Susquehanna Orange and Maroon Classic Friday night. Five Eagles had nice showings in the late night competition.
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the New Year at the Susquehanna Orange and Maroon Classic Friday night. Five Eagles had nice showings in the late night competition.
Senior Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) earned two second place finishes. She qualified for the 60m hurdle finals with a 9.79 second prelim mark and finished the final in a time of 9.71, just .05 seconds ahead of Misericodia. Shaffer also earned a second place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.57m.
Picking up two top 10 finishes of her own was sophomore Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area). She placed third out of 38 throwers in the shot put with a 10.44m mark. In the weight throw, she finished ninth out of 21 athletes with a throw of 11.28m.
On the men's side, Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Beford) finished sixth in a field of 24 in the weight throw. His 13.60m mark came on his second throw and junior Justin Herr (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) went 12.22m in the triple jump to place eighth.
Junior Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) ran well on the track in the 3,000m run. He placed sixth out of 51 runners with a time of 9:15.18, less than six seconds behind the attached leader.
Juniata travels to the Lebanon Valley Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 26 before returning to Selinsgrove for the Susquehanna Crusader Classic on Feb. 1.
