Eagles Edge out Goucher 5-4

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The men's tennis team came out on top in a tight battle with Goucher in conference play, edging out the Gophers 5-4.
Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia/Saint Ignatius) and Roy Liberman (Montevideo, Uruguay/EIHU) beat their opponents 8-2 in first doubles, their match being the only win for the Eagles in doubles competition.
Polisena fell in first singles but was picked up by Liberman (7-5, 6-2), Matyas Kohout (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) (1-6, 6-2, 6-4), and Daichi McAuliffe-Uch (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS) (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) in the second, third, and fourth spots. Dan Ansel's (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) opponent defeated him in fifth singles to tie the teams at 4-4. Owen Grafe (Newton, Mass./Newton North) came up big for the Eagles in sixth singles, ultimately defeating his opponent in three sets to clinch the win for Juniata.
The victory puts Juniata at 8-1 for the season and 6-0 in conference competition, the team clinching a place in the Landmark Conference semifinal. The Eagles will host the first match in postseason play on Tues., May 2.
The Eagles play again tomorrow at Drew for their last regular season match.
