HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College men's tennis team stands atop the Landmark Conference standings along side Moravian College with both teams winning the first two league matches of the season. The University of Scranton also holds a share of the top spot with a 1-0 record. This Sunday, March 30, one of the three undefeated teams will be knocked off the top spot as the Eagles host the Greyhounds on Raffensperger Courts at 1 p.m.
Juniata enters the match undefeated at 8-0 and fresh off a 9-0 sweep of Messiah College last Thursday. The Eagles have combined for perfect records at the No. 1, 4, and 5 singles positions with freshman Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia/Saint Ignatius) and sophomore Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) winning all eight decisions as the only two players to play at the No. 1 and No. 5 positions, respectively. The pair was named back-to-back Landmark Conference Players of the Week and holds a 5-2 overall record at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) and sophomore Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) are 7-0 together in doubles action at the No. 3 position. Senior Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and sophomore Bryan Gregory (Glenn Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) have played every doubles match together this season and are 10-5 on the year. Wisniewski is undefeated in dual match singles and Gregory bounced back from a loss at Catholic to take his next three decisions.
Moravian is 5-5 on the year and coming off an 8-1 loss to Ursinus College last Thursday. Since the foundation of the Landmark Moravian has taken five of the six contests between the two teams. Juniata's lone win came last year in a 6-3 triumph at Moravian. Both teams finished with a 4-3 league mark for fourth in the final regular season standings, but the Eagles earned the bid to the conference tournament with the advantage in the head-to-head tiebreak.
The Juniata women's tennis team will also be hosting Moravian at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
