HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College football team and cheerleading squad will join to promote breast cancer awareness and raise money for breast cancer education programs and research at the Eagles' home game this Saturday, Oct. 22, against Muhlenberg College.
Juniata's football players will each wear a pink ribbon sticker on their helmets, as well as a pink wrist band during the game.
During the day, members of the cheerleading squad will be selling pink whoopie pies for and "in memory of/in honor of" postcards for $1.00 each, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society (ACS). Fans may write the name of a loved one who is either a cancer survivor or cancer victim on the "in memory of/in honor of" postcard, and attach it to a display which will be located across from the main gate to Knox Stadium.
The cards and the pink wrist bands are being donated by the National Football League through its "Crucial Catch" program and partnership with ACS.
Fans may also purchase pink ribbons of their own to wear during the day, as well as tickets for a gift basket of donated items which will also be raffled off. All proceeds from those two events will benefit the Alliance for Breast Cancer at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, an education program funded through a grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh Affiliate.
"The men of the Juniata football program are very pleased that they have the opportunity to participate in this program, and to be a conduit for everyone out there to be informed about breast cancer," said Tim Launtz, Juniata's head football coach. "We're glad that we can be committed to this worthy cause, have the ability to help generate funds, and to sustain the importance of education about breast cancer."
All activities sponsored by the Juniata football team and cheerleaders will take place outside the Juniata football offices in South Hall, located across from the main gate of Knox Stadium.
