Madison, N.J. – The Juniata baseball team dropped a pair of games at Drew on Saturday, falling 10-9 in a back-and-forth opener before an 8-1 loss in game two.
In game one, Juniata jumped out early with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Matthew Koehler and a two-RBI hit from Landon Blank. The Eagles broke the game open in the fifth, scoring six runs on five hits and taking advantage of Drew miscues. Zach Johnston delivered a two-RBI double, Koehler followed with an RBI double, and Blank cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple before Ayden Thelen added an RBI single to make it 9-2.
Juniata's offense totaled 13 hits in the opener, with Koehler leading the way at 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Blank finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a triple, while Ty Vickers added two hits and scored twice. Connor Blough also recorded two hits and swiped two bases as the Eagles built their largest lead of the game.
On the mound, Braelan Huber worked 4.1 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) with six walks and two strikeouts. Tim Coleman and Ben Ryan combined to hold Drew to just one run over the next 3.2 innings, helping Juniata maintain control into the late innings. However, Drew rallied in the ninth, stringing together key hits to score four runs and walk off with the 10-9 win. Landen Eichhorn was charged with the loss.
In game two, Drew again took control early, scoring five runs in the third inning and adding three more in the fourth. Juniata struggled to generate offense, finishing with four hits. Ty Vickers, Jackson Cunnane, Ethan Pfeffer, and Charlie Bakken each recorded a hit, with Pfeffer driving in the Eagles' only run on a single in the seventh.
Aidan Chermol started and allowed five runs over 2.2 innings, while Connor Rohm followed with 1.1 innings of relief. Max Dupes was a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing four scoreless innings and striking out four while allowing just two hits to keep Juniata within reach late.
The Eagles will take on Penn St. Altoona tomorrow afternoon at home.
