Rohm Strong Outing Leads Eagles Past Mounties, Johnston Ties Program Single-Game Stolen Base Record
HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team picked up a non-conference win over Mount Aloysius College, 8-2, on a sunny afternoon at Langdon Goodale Field.
Connor Rohm got the win and went 6.1 innings while allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Zach Johnston went 2-4 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored, and four stolen bases. Ty Vickers was 2-3 with two RBI, while Charlie Bakken was 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Krieg Pierce entered in relief and struck out five across 2.1 innings of work. Connor Lindsey entered in the ninth and struck out the game's final batter.
Johnston pushed Connor Blough home with an RBI single up the middle in the first inning.
Vickers added another as he drove in Bakken with a single to right.
The Mounties tied the game up in the third, but the Eagle offense continued to manufacture runs.
Baken scored Landon Blank in the fourth with an RBI single through the right side. In the sixth, Vickers scored Bakken again, this time with a single up the middle.
In the seventh, Johnston stole his third base of the day in the seventh and proceeded home after an errant throw by the catcher. Blank drove home Matthew Koehler with a sacrifice fly, and Jace Collins scored on a passed ball.
Koehler scored the final run of the game in the eighth on a sac fly to right that scored Blough.
Johnston's four stolen bases ties program record holder and Juniata Hall of Famer Matt Eisenberg's record of four, which he set against Lebanon Valley back in 2000.
Juniata is back at it tomorrow as they host the Catholic University of America; first pitch is at 3:30.
