Cunnane, Johnston, Koehler Lead Juniata Effort in Doubleheader Against Elizabethtown
Huntingdon, Pa. – The Juniata baseball team hosted Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Langdon-Goodale Field, dropping both contests despite strong offensive performances throughout the day.
In game one, Jackson Cunnane put the Eagles in front early with a three-run home run in the second inning, and Zach Johnston followed with a three-run shot in the fifth to help Juniata regain the lead, while Ricky Scott added a three-run homer in the eighth as part of a late push.
Cunnane finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, Johnston drove in three runs, and Scott also totaled three RBI, while Landon Blank added two hits.
In game two, Juniata again jumped out quickly with three runs in the first inning before adding two more in the third behind RBI from David Beard and Charlie Bakken, and later took a 6-5 lead in the fifth as Matthew Koehler delivered his second RBI single of the game. Koehler led all hitters with a perfect 4-for-4 performance and two RBI, Beard recorded two hits and an RBI, and Johnston scored twice.
Elizabethtown responded in the late innings of both games to secure the sweep.
Juniata and Elizabethtown will wrap up the series on Sunday, April 12, with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at Langdon-Goodale Field.
