Early Lead Slips Away as Juniata Falls 6-3 at Catholic
Washington, D.C. – The Juniata baseball team fell to Catholic, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Talbot Field.
Juniata struck first in the opening inning when Connor Blough scored on an RBI groundout by Zach Johnston, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
Catholic answered in the second to tie the game before taking control in the third inning, scoring three runs to build a 4-1 advantage.
The Eagles cut into the deficit in the fifth when Jace Irvin launched a two-run home run to left field, bringing Juniata within one at 4-3.
Catholic responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth and added another in the sixth to extend its lead to 6-3. Juniata was held scoreless over the final three innings.
Irvin led the offense with a home run and two RBI, while Blough scored twice, recorded a hit, and stole two bases. Charlie Bakken, Matthew Koehler, and Ricky Scott each added a hit for the Eagles.
On the mound, Landen Eichhorn took the loss after allowing four runs over three innings. Tim Coleman, Hunter Thomas, Ben Ryan, and Aidan Chermol combined in relief, with Chermol tossing two scoreless innings.
Juniata finished with five hits, while Catholic totaled seven.
Juniata heads to Mt. Aloysius tomorrow afternoon.
