Juniata indoor track and field has good showing at Bucknell Winter Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Juniata College’s senior Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin), junior Anglea Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) and sophomore Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) each placed in the top ten in their solo events at Saturday’s 19^th Annual Bucknell University Winter Classic. 

Woods took home fourth place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:33.31. Woods was the first Division III athlete to cross the finish line, as a Lock Haven runner took first and a pair of Bucknell competitors took second and third.

Shaffer place fifth in the women’s high jump as she leapt 5-1, while teammate Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) also finished fifth with a 5-1 mark. Shaffer placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a finishing time of 9.75 seconds. 

Parker placed ninth in both the one-mile run and the 1,000-meter race. Parker finished the one-mile with a 4:34.04 time, with teammate Trevor Stephens (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) close behind in 11^th place with a 4:36.19 time. Parker crossed the finish line in the 1,000 in just 2:46.30.

Freshman Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dan, Pa./Selinsgove Area) finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 36-2^3/4, while senior Kaitlyn Shultz (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) finished ninth in the weight throw with a 36-11^1/2 chuck.

Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) jumped 20-6^1/2 in the men’s long jump to earn a 12^th place finish, while Ryan Trexler (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) finished 13^th in the 800-meter run with a 2:00.04 time and Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) crossed the line in 16:02.58 in the 5000 meter run.

Juniata will compete in the Susquehanna Open on Friday, Feb. 17 in Selinsgrove, Pa.
