Clapper, Bauer, and Shultz pace Juniata track at WVU Holiday Classic
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Juniata College se-nior Nicholas Bauer finished second in the long jump and was fifth in the triple jump, leading the Eagle men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams at Saturday’s West Virginia University Holiday Classic meet.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Juniata College se-nior Nicholas Bauer finished second in the long jump and was fifth in the triple jump, leading the Eagle men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams at Saturday’s West Virginia University Holiday Classic meet.
Bauer hit a mark of 21-1 ½ in the long jump, and posted a jump of 40-3 ½ in the triple jump in Juniata’s first meet of the indoor season.
Junior Justin Clapper posted a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 43-6, and also turned in a fourth-place effort in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 13-3 ½.
On the track, the Juniata men were led by Dan Hoover with a 12th-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 25.43 seconds. The Eagle quartet of Vinny Smith, Tyler Mandley, Garret Kratina, and Brett Heber placed 10th in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:50.85.
The women’s team was paced by senior Kaitlyn Shultz, who was 10th in the weight throw with an effort of 34-1, and 16th in the shot put with a toss of 30-2 ¾. Chelsey Beaver placed 12th in the shot put with a mark of 31-10 ¼.
In the high jump, junior Lauren Taylor was 12th in the high jump after clearing the bar at 4-6.
The Juniata track teams will return to competition when they return to campus for the Spring 2012 semester, starting with the Susquehanna Orange & Maroon Classic on Saturday, Jan. 22, in Selinsgrove, Pa.
