Cougars Seven Straight Goals Too Much For Eagles

DANVILLE, Va.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team lost their final game of their spring break trip at Averett University 11-5, Wednesday afternoon.

Santana Mays (Parkton, Md./Hereford) tallied two goals while Natalie Gibson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) had two goals, four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) tallied one goal while Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla./South Fork HS) had two assists, three ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Kerry McClaughry (Somerville, N.J./Somerville HS) had an assist and two ground balls while Allison Kincaid (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) chipped in one assist. Mina Wilt (Wells, Tannery, Pa./Forbes Road) had five ground balls, three draw controls and six caused turnovers. Isabella Medaris (Monroe, Conn./Masulk) had 14 saves and six ground balls.

The Cougars scored the opening goal of the game six minutes in. With 21 minutes to go, McClaughry found Mays to tie the score at 1-1. Averett scored again before Gibson scored from a free position shot and Danchenko setup Edwards to give JC their first lead with just over 11 minutes left in the half. 

Averett scored the final two goals of the first half and the first five of the second as Juniata fell behind 9-3 with 12 minutes and 41 seconds to go in the game. Gibson scored off a feed from Kincaid to try and stop the run but Averett struck twice more over the next nine minutes to make it 11-4. Mays scored off an assist from Danchenko in the final 30 seconds.

The Eagles held a 10-8 edge in draw controls. 

Juniata will play at Moravian in their first Landmark Conference game, Saturday at 1:00.
