HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Former Juniata College men's volleyball player Patrick Shawaryn was named National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for his role in helping the men's volleyball team capture its first Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) title. The 2004 graduate also assists the women's program and has been on the sidelines for the past three years.
Shawaryn, a four-time letterwinner, was libero of Juniata's 2004 Division III National Championship team. The Lancaster, Pa. native is the lead recruiter and responsible for preparing the defensive scouting reports and training passers. Head coach Kevin Moore called Shawaryn's scouting reports crucial in the Eagles win over UC Santa Cruz in the CVC Championship.
Moore and Shawaryn have led the Eagles to the program's first back-to-back 20-win seasons, first CVC title and first NCAA tournament appearance. In just three years, the pair have amassed 70 wins and gone 21-2 in conference matches.
