Eagles Dodge a Late Rally From Bullets, Win Final Contest of the Year

GETTYSBURG, Pa.-The Juniata baseball team hung on and won their final contest of the season, 10-9, Tuesday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field. 

Dillon Hippensteel (Dillsburg, Pa./York Catholic) opened the game with a double down the right field line and two batters later Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa./Mifflin County HS) sent a ball over the fence in left to give JC a 2-0 lead. Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) tripled to right center and a Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) sacrifice fly to right put Juniata ahead 3-0 after one.  

Matt Innella (Commack, N.Y./Commack) led off the forth with a single through the left side and advanced to second with a balk. Two batters later Hippensteel walked before Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) tripled to left center to clear the bases. That made it 5-0 midway through the fourth. Schreder drove in another run with a double to center in the sixth.  

The Bullets managed to score three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to halve the Eagle lead to 6-3. 

Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) reached safely with a bunt and stole second. Hippensteel singled to center and Schreder walked to load the bases. Maclay was hit by a pitch to send a run in and Kipp drove home Hippensteel. A Price single through the left side scored two more runs which proved vital in the final inning 

Gettysburg tallied six runs in the bottom of the night and had the winning run at the plate, but the final batter popped up to second as the Eagles emerged victorious.

Juniata finishes the year 11-26.
