Mersky earns All-Landmark Conference honors

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College baseball's junior outfielder Ben Mersky (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) earned All-Landmark Conference First Team honors for his explosive efforts as the team's centerfielder and his exceptional offensive effort during the 2012 season, released Tuesday.

Mersky led the team in hits (56), batting average (.452), doubles (12), and RBI (35) as he played in 35 games this season. His batting average sits atop the top players in the Landmark Conference and ranks 14th among Division III statistical leaders. His team high 14 stolen bases ranks fifth in the league and his three triples tie him for third in the conference. Mersky also led the Eagles in on base percentage, .497, as the team's leadoff batter.

Defensively, Mersky recorded 90 putouts with just two errors for a .978 fielding percentage. Mersky also logged an assist when he pegged a Gettysburg runner out at the plate that attempted to go from second to home on a single.

Against conference opponents, Mersky swung at an impressive .467 average that included 28 hits, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, and seven doubles. Arguably his best three-game league series was against the University of Scranton when he tallied seven hits across the three games, at least two in each contest, and batted-in at least one run and scoring at least once in each of the games.
Juniata ended the 2012 season with a 13-24 overall record and went 4-14 in the Landmark Conference.
